Emerging market equity funds continued to attract inflows for 14 straight weeks, with investors pouring in $3.4 billion in the week to June 10, according to data from EPFR Global.
“Emerging markets equity funds collectively posted their 14th straight week of net inflows in
early June as investors continue to look to this asset class for faster growth and some protection against a weaker US dollar,” EPFR Global, which tracks global funds, said in an emailed statement.
Inflows into all emerging market equity funds since the second week of March now total $30.3 billion, compared with collective net outflows of $11.8 billion posted by various developed market equity funds (the United States, Europe and Japan equity fund).
According to the available data, the emerging market equity funds have received inflows of $29.5 billion so far this year, when compared with
outflows of $51.6 billion from developed market equity funds.
Asia ex-Japan equity funds attracted net inflows of $1.65 billion for the week ending June 10,
with China equity
funds accounting for
$404 million.
Diversified global emerging markets (GEM) equity funds absorbed $1.33 billion, while Latin America equity funds collected $265 million and Europe, West Asia and Africa fund had $161 million in the same period.
Bric (Brazil, Russia, India and China)-focussed equity funds have now posted inflows for the 13 of the past 14 weeks, during which time they have received net inflows of
$1.4 billion.
Meanwhile, funds dedicated to the individual Bric markets are sitting on inflow streaks ranging from 13 consecutive weeks for Russia equity funds to 10 straight weeks for India as well as Brazil equity funds, EPFR stated.
Overall, EPFR Global-tracked equity funds posted inflows of $ 6.83 billion for the week — of which $3.4 billion was attributable to emerging markets funds — while flows into the bond funds totaled $3.68 billion.
However, money market funds had net outflows of $11.3 billion and investors have now removed $104.4 billion this year from such
funds, EPFR said.
