AT&T mobile employees on job after contract expires
10 Feb 2009: Unionized wireless employees at AT&T Inc turned up for work on Monday, even after their labor contract expired and talks stalled.
The union, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) said it still hoped to reach agreement with the operator on a new contract.
The CWA said the terms of the old contract covering 20,000 workers in AT&T`s mobile business remained in effect, even though no new agreement was reached. No new talks were scheduled. CWA spokeswoman Candice Johnson said the union was "continuing to work to try to get a contract" after AT&T declined to extend the contract by 30 days.
The contract had been extended by one day after expiring at 12:01 AM on February 8.
