Confederation of Indian Industry to fine tune HR
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has collaborated with the National Human Resources Development Network (NHRD) to tackle the severe shortage of Human Resource (HR) professionals in the industry.
The two industry bodies have teamed up with XLRI, Jamshedpur to introduce programmes that help to assess and develop compe tencies of HR professionals in the country. “Currently, the business schools and universities across the country have a capacity to generate 10,000 HR professionals every year, way short of the industry requirement of 30,000-50,000 new HR professionals every year,” pointed out Mr B. Santhanam, chairman, CII National Committee on Skills, HR and Industrial Relations.
CII and NHRD will initially introduce an assessment and training programme, named HR Compass, that will assess HR professionals across the country, provide feedback and help them to improve their competencies.
“We have already trained 90 top HR professionals across the country. Another 100 will be trained in due course of time. These trained professionals will then act as assessors and help in development of HR professionals. Within one year we target to assess and help 1,000 professionals across the country,” Mr Santhanam said.
He added that the focus of this programme would be on tier-III and tier-IV cities to improve the competencies of HR employees in the small and medium enterprises. Mr Santhanam also added that a programme, HR in a Box, that will focus on very small organisations and assist them in elementary HR practices through online portals would also be introduced over the next few months.
