Curtain raiser for Business process testing & Oracle accelerator

HP and TurnKey Solutions have joined forces to provide an accelerated approach to quality management for the Oracle E-Business Suite.

How the testing accelerator works

Based upon HP Business Process Testing software, part of the HP Quality Center software suite, the testing accelerator includes pre-automated test cases for commonly used Oracle E-Business Suite modules.

Each test case consists of reusable test components and keywords. Non-technical subject matter experts can create new tests or customize existing tests without using programming or scripting languages. In addition, they can create new, highly customized, automated tests in minutes, using a simple drag-and-drop interface. Creating automated tests becomes as easy as writing manual test cases.

Maintaining test cases in the testing accelerator is straightforward and streamlined. When you apply a patch, customization or upgrade to your Oracle applications, regardless of whether they are based on

Oracle Forms or Oracle Application Framework, the associated test components are updated with the new keywords. You select simple, context-sensitive, pulldown options in a spreadsheet-like format, and the testing accelerator automatically populates changes to all test cases relating to the affected forms or pages. In a matter of hours, the testing accelerator can verify that your system is ready for production.

Key features and benefits

· Lets you implement a complete, automated regression test library in weeks, not months. The testing accelerator contains pre-automated test cases and end-to-end integration tests for Oracle E-Business Suite 11i and Release 12 and is designed to be easily extended and customized for each customer’s unique Oracle E-Business Suite implementation.

· Eliminates the need to involve end users or business analysts in manual regression testing. Once implemented, the testing accelerator can perform all regression testing.

· The testing accelerator’s data management system utilizes easy-to-use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets that hold testing data and tell the testing accelerator which flow through the Oracle E-Business Suite to follow. This provides true “data-driven testing” and lets functional experts define testing with the same data-driven approach that they typically use today.

· Allows non-technical business analysts to create, customize and maintain automated tests. The testing accelerator is built upon HP Business Process Testing, a complete, role-based test automation system, designed to let business users define and execute test automation without programming skills or knowledge

Business process testing
The testing of the full business process, from the start of a transaction (which might be a telephone call) through to the completion (which might be the receipt of payment for an invoice after goods have been shipped).

Testing the full business process ensures that the system is really going to work. There are many examples of excellent software systems being implemented, where the supporting processes don’t work and undermine the effectiveness of the software (for example, e-commerce sites work perfectly, but the delivery companies don’t deliver when expected and ruin the customer experience).

Where the implementation of the system requires a lot of interaction between the business and the system(s) then a dress rehearsal is highly recommended.

To solve this business problem, Mercury has recently launched the industry’s first business process testing software - Mercury Business Process Testing™. It has been designed so that QA and business teams can work together throughout the testing process, regardless of levels of technical expertise. They can test more functionality in more applications earlier in the development cycle resulting in higher quality applications and confidence that the company’s processes will comply with regulatory mandates concerning data integrity and applications.

How does it work?

A unique component-based approach to test automation and auto-documentation dramatically cuts customers’ test maintenance time and the costs of manual documentation. A powerful set of new features and functionality enables business analysts and QA engineers to:

Create business processes tests with simple drag and drop capabilities
Construct test components and test cases with natural language script-less, ‘keyword-driven testing.’
Reduce application delivery time by testing throughout the development cycle with a component-based approach
Quickly build different test cases by re-using individual test components
Provide global component access to distributed teams through central test component repository
Document tests and correlate results through auto-documentation.
