Emerging technologies meet to be held in Bangalore
Bangalore, Dec 16: A two-day meet on innovations and research developments in the Internet, data-centre networking, wireless, social networking, and enabling technologies such as silicon design and manufacturing begins here Thursday.
Called `The Stanford Engineering Symposium - India`, the meet is being organised by the Stanford University`s School of Engineering for the first time in the country in association with SiliconIndia, a professional networking portal.
Eight Stanford faculty members in electrical engineering and computer science will speak at the meet and interact with representatives of Indian industry and academia, SiliconIndia said in a statement.
It said Stanford University believes that `India creates an innovative environment for emerging technologies due to unique consumer demands and a large market with rapid adoption rates. These factors will greatly impact network architectures and protocols which support social networking, security and e-commerce.`
`There is enormous opportunity for innovation in terms of scale, cost and ease-of-use in the Indian context which could then emerge as solutions in other geographical regions. Those executives and professionals who understand these emerging trends could create the next major player in the networking industry,` the statement quoted Andy DiPaolo, executive director at Stanford Center for Professional Development, as saying.
Added Balaji Prabhakar, associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford University: `The need for faster, more efficient and reliable communication spurred the innovation of the network, leading to a variety of novel communication modes which are ubiquitous today: email, the web, the cell phone, information sharing, data retrieval and mining and social networking.`
`There is another shift on the horizon. Network infrastructures in places like India could signal a fundamental move in network architectures and protocols,` Prabhakar said.
