MC blacklists 4 advertisers for not paying licence fee

Acting tough on advertisers for not depositing licence fee, the Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation today blacklisted four famous advertisers - Greenline, Gypsy Advertiser, August Advertiser and Rajiv Nanchahal.

The said companies have been debarred from applying for any tender of the municipal corporation which includes advertisements on unipoles, garbage bins, water tanks and traffic umbrellas.

August Advertiser has to pay Rs 3.6 lakh as the licence fee to the Municipal Corporation while Rajiv Nanchahal`s pending amount is Rs 60,000. Greenline`s outstanding amount is Rs 1.10 lakh while Rs 7.19 lakh is yet to be paid by Gypsy Advertiser.

Talking to Newsline, Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal confirmed the decision and said, "The erring companies have been told not to use any MC sites."

Meanwhile, the stalled construction of four roads has led to the escalation of project cost from Rs 3.39 crore to Rs 4.25 crore. Files will be rechecked before giving a final nod to the Jagraon Road till Ambedkar Chowk, Jagraon- Sherpur Road, Jagraon- Sidhwan Canal Road and Dhuriline.

In order to beautify the city, Rs 1.5 crore will be spent on streelights in the first phase. Municipal Commissioner GS Ghuman said, "The roads include Ferozepur Road, Chandigarh Road via Link Road. Most of the lights on these roads are faulty and hence they need to be replaced. Good quality lights have been installed on the main roads in Chandigarh to give a better look to the city and the same will be done in Ludhiana."

The corporation has also given a green signal to the idea of buying more equipment for the city.

Confirming the same, Pal Singh Grewal, another member of FandCC said, "We will get four more JCB machines, 3 sewer cleaning machines, 127 garbage bins, 6 more vehicles for tehbazari branch and few other items. The budget is over Rs 2 crore."
