3 Dec 2008:

NEW DELHI: If hot job destinations
in the crisis-ridden US and Europe have left you disillusioned, there are safer sanctuaries closer home.
Middle East is fast opening it’s door for management talent from India. From IIM-B , IIM-C , IIM-K , IIML , FMS, Delhi to niche schools like Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF), inclination of Middle East firms towards Indian talent is palpable.

While firms from the Middle East have upped the number of interns to 20 this year from three to four last year at IIM-B , they have made around 10 offers compared to six the previous year at IIM-L .

Similarly, PAF saw eight students getting hired this year against just one last year. FMS on the other hand, saw the number doubling during its summer placement this year, up from six to around 11 this year. Some of the major recruiters from the Gulf region have been MH Alshaya, Arthur D Little, Olam International and UAE Exchange , to name a few.

If you are wondering what’s helping them to buck the trend, it’s zilch to a much mellowed down slowdown effect has helped to keep up the growth momentum they say. If IIM-B’s experience is any indication, there’s a reason to believe that the interest in Indian campuses has only been going up.

Particularly for the institute, what helped was its international business programmes reaching out to global recruiters. “They have known our students through various programmes and they knew that Indian talent has an edge over others. This explains their increased presence.” says IIM-B placement chairperson Sourav Mukherjee. Interactions also came in handy when because of the global meltdown the school had to expand its base of potential recruiters.
