Nano not to be displayed in Jharkhand trade fair
People of Jharkhand, who were eagerly waiting for the Jharkhand Trade Fair, beginning Saturday, to take a glimpse of the world`s most inexpensive car, will feel disappointed as the the government announced Tata Nano will not be displayed in the 10-day event.
"Tata Motors expressed inability to make the car available for the display in the trade fair," Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto told reporters here Saturday.
Last week, the government announced that the much-awaited N
ano, priced at Rs.100,000, would be the major attraction of the event that will end Nov 24.
Mahto, however, did not explain why Tata Motors is not bringing a Nano model to the fair.
The fair is organised every year to mark the celebrations of the establishment day of Jharkhand. The state was carved out of Bihar Nov 15, 2000.
Tata Motors stall will display the company`s other models in the fair.
According to sources, Mahto, who is also holding the industry ministry, announced Nano display at the fair without consulting the Tata Motors officials.
Besides, Chief Minister Shibu Soren`s recent remarks that Tata was interested only in making money and not in the welfare of the people, might have influenced Tata`s decision to withdraw Nano from the fair, officials said.
The withdrawal of Nano would cost the government in revenue collection as it expected huge turnout at the fair to take a view of the "people`s car". The entry fee of the trade fair is Rs.5 per person.
