Satyam outplacing its staff to other Mahindra firms

Bangalore: Mahindra Satyam is looking at ways to outplace its staff to other Tech Mahindra group companies and even companies outside the group. In the month of June, the company had benched 8400 employees. Since then it has redeployed around 1300 people. The company`s total strength is of 34,000 employees.

"Some people are placed in other group companies. We are even open to the idea of outplacing them outside the group. They are all extremely bright people and have suffered a lot. But we had to bench them to rationalize infrastructure and other costs" said Atul Kunwar, President, Mahindra Satyam MEA, Europe, India and APAC to Economic Times. Kunwar said that Mahindra Satyam is extending its support to the benched employees to develop their skills.

Mahindra Satyam has also received several job applications from some of the big names in the industry. "We might recruit some of these people, even though the priority is to develop leaders from within the company. The fact remains that the revival process at Mahindra Satyam is a challenge in itself, with which several reputed industry leaders want to get associated," said Kunwar.

Reviving the company to its old stature is the biggest challenge that Mahindra Satyam is facing right now. The company has added some 32 new clients since the time Tech Mahindra acquired Satyam. Kunwar says that October-December quarter is crucial, since companies then finalize their IT budget. Company`s management has also met all its existing and older clients in the U.S., Africa, Middle-east and Africa. "At least ten customers, who moved away after the scam broke out, have reposed their faith and given us some smaller-sized contracts. The clients are reposing back their confidence. We will now undertake client meets in Europe and India," added Kunwar.

Currently, Mahindra Satyam has around 400 clients as compared to 500-odd before the scam broke out. The company is also looking at markets like India, Africa and the Middle-East, previously not in the focus. The company is trying to double its business in India in next two years and is eyeing government projects and Unique Identification Number`s Database project (UID).
