TCS asks remaining campus hires to join

Thursday,19 March 2009:Mumbai: Putting an end to about 8 months of waiting, India`s largest IT exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has finally decided to complete the process of bringing on board the campus recruits of 2008-09 by this month. TCS had handed over 22,000 offer letters to freshers for 2008-09, in which 21,000 have already joined the company. The remaining 1000 freshers will join the company soon, reported BusinessLine.

According to a TCS spokesperson, the company has completed the procedure of communicating the date of joining to its employees-in-the-wings.

Recently, TCS had asked around 1,300 employees to resign from the company following a routine bi-annual performance appraisal. While the company denied the move to be part of any cost cutting exercise, analysts believe the tough economic environment is causing IT firms to cut down on employee costs.

Meanwhile, the firm has already said that it would now approach engineering colleges only three months before their graduation, as TCS believes that it would ensure greater business visibility.

On salary review, TCS spokesperson said that there has been no revision in the entry-level compensation at TCS. "Campus compensation structure remains unchanged. Over 19,000 freshers have already joined us in the first nine months till Q3 FY09. The remaining will come on board at the same compensation level," the spokesperson added.
