U.S. banking sector back to profit, insurance fund in red

Washington: The U.S. banking industry returned to profit in the third quarter, but the government insurance fund went into deficit for the first time since 1992, the regulators announced. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) said commercial banks and thrifts earned a collective $2.8 billion in the third quarter.
