Why IT professionals?

Why most of the IT professional do join in the social netwroking sites? Any interesting reason from the readers here?
IT Professionals find a way to grow their professional network by joining through these social networking sites. They get suggestions from many people who are around the world for their career options and also for personal development. So that people can know current trends of IT and get help for their current technologies what they use.
theoritically its true. Most of the cases serious professionals do join technical forums for their career growth. But other than tehcnoical professioanl growth, most of them joining social networking sites like netlog,orkut, linkedin, facebook, etc etc.... not exactly for professioanl networking...
